Catching the Rainbow
A bright ribbon of rainbow was dancing across the pale gravel by the garden trellis. I paused... crouching low to watch the yellow and violet stripes quiver on the stones. Up in the vine leaves, a small faceted glass crystal was slowly turning. Step by step, I crept closer, keeping my belly low. When the colored beam drifted still, I sprang forward with a soft hop, planting both front paws right over the light. The rainbow didn't scatter—it climbed straight up across my black curls. I tilted my head, waiting very quietly, feeling like I had gathered a warm, secret glow.
