A Snug Little Envelope
My paws trotted tiredly back over the front threshold after an afternoon outdoors, ready to find a quiet resting spot. Beside the woven floor basket, a small cardboard mailer envelope was leaning propped against the baseboard. I paused, chirping softly at its stiff brown flap. Leaning close until my nose nudged the edge, I used both front paws to pry the unsealed opening wide. It gave a papery sigh and stayed parted, creating a dark, hollow pocket. I wiggled my front paws and chest right inside the smooth cardstock sleeve, resting my chin on the stiff paper lip to listen to the quiet room.
