A Bedside Audience
The quiet of the late evening demanded a far more attentive crowd. Wandering onto the deep fabric of the sofa, I found an embroidered toss pillow lounging upright, totally oblivious to my brilliance! I couldn't let such indifference stand. I stepped right up, nudged a brass decorative button flat against its seam, and leaned in with theatrical solemnity to whisper the ringmaster’s evening benediction. It stayed perfectly still, utterly captivated by my every breath. At last, a listener who knows better than to look away.
