A Gentle Flutter of Felt
I pushed past the hem of the armchair drape and noticed an open box of round felt piano caster cups resting beside the bench leg. The dense green pads looked soft and inviting. Sitting down on the hardwood with my beaded legs stretched out, I picked up one thick felt disc with both plush hands. When I gently dropped it onto another, it didn't clack or ring; it made the quietest, velvety thud. Intrigued by this hushed silence, I pressed three discs together into a soft little sandwich and balanced them carefully on their curved edges against the lacquered bench leg.
