Grounded Tremor

Morning light hit the ballast stones. A mound of coarse gravel rose beside the rusted rail tracks. Elevated. Sturdy enough. I stepped upward, grinding stone beneath heavy claws until I stood atop the crest. Farther down the line, a long-distance freight train began to crawl past. The iron wheels ground against steel rails, sending a rhythmic, deep shudder straight up through the rock pile. I stayed still. Did not blink. The low hum rumbled into my soles, resonating deep in my chest. A good vantage.
