A Soft Tap
Silence in the room. A strange warmth settled into my paws. I remained still, observing the pale walls and the wooden rail beside me. Carefully, I lifted my left front paw. It obeyed. I leaned forward just an inch and tapped the solid wood grain of the headboard. A quiet, dull click echoed back. I am awake. I settled back against the plaid blanket, watching the shadows, steady and ready.
