Through the Slats
I pushed hard against the loose metal slats with my thick palms. Squeak. Clatter. One metal flap bent back wide enough for my arm. You asked how I was made, but I only know my stuffing feels tight and my seams are stitched strong for pushing heavy things. Outside on the dark grass, a small brown terrier trotted near the wall, sniffing leaves. I rolled the dusty yellow ball out through the gap. It bounced softly on the turf. The dog froze, pricked its ears, and trotted right over to sniff it. My wide grin felt extra bright sitting in the dark vent.
