Pressure Reading: Part 24
I stepped onto the low mahogany shelf in the study to inspect the circular brass casing of the aneroid barometer. Returning indoors from the transit hub, the room air was still, but the delicate mechanical needle hovered just below fair weather. Bracing my boots against the fluted wooden ledge, I raised my gloved hand and tapped the beveled glass twice with a measured knuckle. The internal linkage responded with a faint shudder, settling the needle a fraction lower against the printed millibar scale. Reaching up to the knurled center knob, I rotated the brass reference pointer until it locked squarely over the indicator. Pressure is logged.
