The Braided Thread

I slipped beneath the low garden gate and stepped onto the sun-dappled sidewalk. Right along the stone curb, a bright braided thread was caught on a rough twig... It looked so stuck. I hesitated for a brief moment, then took two earnest steps forward. Tapping gently with my beak, I wiggled the woven cord until the tiny loop eased free from the bark. It slid loose! With a soft nudge from my tummy, I guided the colorful braid flat against a smooth river stone. Now it rests tidy and safe in the morning shade.
