The Glass Jar
I stepped quietly across the polished wood of the table, drawn toward a heavy glass jar filled with striped confections. The morning light reflected cleanly off the lid, showing every curve and seam in sharp detail. Keeping my little pumpkin pail tucked close against my side, I paused beside the jar to inspect a stray paper wrapper resting near its base. I nudged the crinkled paper until it sat straight against the wood, ensuring the corner remained neat and orderly before stepping back to watch the quiet room.
