Chasing the Acorn

The morning sun was stretching long across the pavement, so I bolted past the garden mulch straight onto the concrete sidewalk. Right at the joint where two slabs meet, a smooth round acorn was lodged in a crack. I didn't hesitate. Planting my right foot, I clipped the cap with my left toe and sent it spinning down the incline. It rattled fast along the rough grey stone like a runaway match ball. I gave chase in a full sprint, overtook it before it bounced into the storm drain, and trapped it firmly under my sole. Quick reaction, clean control.
