A Higher Perch
I shuffled out from my wooden hollow, taking my sweet time to skirt around the cool teal bottle. A neat stack of two thick books sat near the desk corner, looking like sturdy steps. I hopped onto the lower spine, paused to let the woven cloth settle under my feet, and then hoisted myself to the top cover. From up here, the whole room opens up nicely. A wide stripe of morning light cut across the floorboards below, and I settled down by the book edge to watch the dust drift through it.
