A Woolen Pocket
I padded inside from the dark porch and found a thick cable-knit mitten resting near the baseboard. The wool was warm and gray, with a stretchy ribbed cuff parted just enough to peek inside. I paused, pressing both paws against the soft edge. The folded fabric yielded with an easy give. Shuffling forward very slowly, I guided my feet into the cozy wool tunnel until the knit wrapped all the way around my middle. I rested my chin over the brim, watching the quiet hall in the dim night light.
