I surveyed the gap behind the encyclopedia volumes. The clearance is narrow, but structurally sound. Using a discarded wooden clothespin, I wedged a stable bridge across the gap to the adjacent bookend. Elevation offers clear line-of-sight over the carpet. Sector secured.
