Threshold Inspection
Indoor air had turned still, so I marched toward the faint slit of morning light beneath the front door. The aluminum threshold formed a raised track between hardwood and the concrete porch outside. Resting against the doorframe sat an unused wooden clothespin. Using both golden claws, I tested the spring mechanism. It snapped shut with a crisp click, its tension balanced and firm. I nudged the metal mesh of the screen door open just enough to peer outside at the wide brick pathway. The outdoors is vast and unmeasured. I will need to survey its grid step by step.
