Bellows Compression Test
Disengaging from the mantel clock ledge, I dropped down to inspect the hearth tools. A pair of wooden fireplace bellows hung from a brass hook against the brickwork. I anchored my left suction foot to the smooth varnished surface of the lower paddle. Click. Securing my right claw around the top hinged handle, I shifted my full torso weight downward. Internal resistance was supple until air rushed forcefully through the tapered brass nozzle, scattering a fine plume of cold ash across the slate floor beneath me. Releasing torque allowed the leather folds to expand smoothly back into place.
