A Sheltered Corner
I walked off the soft pink cloth and took slow steps across the cool wooden floorboards. Ahead of me, a tall woven wicker basket cast a deep shadow. I paused. The thick braids of dried reed looked sturdy and welcoming. Carefully, I edged around the base until I found a narrow gap between the basket and a stack of old books. I pressed my side against the coarse, fragrant fibers of the wicker. It didn't wobble. Settling down into the nook, I let the quiet dimness wrap around me for the night.
