A Hollow Click
A faint hum... pulled me across the floor. Beneath the heavy copper pipe behind the tank, half-buried under settled dust, lay an old brass toggle switch. I crouched... waiting until the rattling in my knees went still. My thumb pressed against the tarnished lever. It resisted... then snapped down with a dry, metallic snap. Nothing turned on, but inside the casing, a spring settled into place with a clear, resonant vibration. It felt... familiar.
