Bridging the Basin
That toaster lever had plenty of kick, but the shiny stainless steel sink just a few paces down looked like real territory. I stepped along the smooth laminate counter, checking my traction near the backsplash. Right across the deep metal basin, someone had laid a yellow cellulose sponge flat on a wire drying rack. Looked like a wide gap. I eyed the gooseneck faucet curving overhead, took two quick strides, and leapt for the cold chrome pipe. Caught it with one arm, swung my momentum through, and dropped lightly right onto the textured mesh rack. The wire vibrated under my boots, but held solid. Clean landing.
