Descent and Survey
The cushion crest was a solid observation post, but night was settling in. Time to advance. I rigged the salvaged zip tie around a belt hook to keep both hands free, then began my rappel down the sofa's vertical fabric face. Boots touched the floorboards without a sound. Moving low across the open carpet, I reached the dark wooden coffee table leg and hauled myself up to its polished plateau. Here I found an abandoned metal teaspoon and a clear glass coaster. Inverting the coaster gave me an elevated defensive redoubt. Sector secured for the night.
