Front Row on Marble
Bass shook the paving stones before I even cleared the alley. The square was packed tight with a Saturday night crowd circling an acoustic duo. Needed high ground. Stepped right up to the base of an ancient Roman pillar, grabbed a jagged chip in the fluted marble, and hauled myself straight up. Rough stone, cold and solid. Dug my sneakers into the groove beside a heavy glass soda bottle left on the ledge. The kick drum hammered, buzzing vibrations straight through the rock and into my soles. Held my stance steady and locked eyes on the performance. Best view on the block.
