Night Runner Return
Took the elevator back up from the ground floor, slipping past the entryway just as dusk settled. Right on the rough coir welcome mat outside the door sat a forgotten brass apartment key on a bright orange lanyard. Perfect rest stop. I hopped straight onto the coarse bristles of the mat, feeling the stiff fibers poke through my sneaker treads. I leaned back against the cool brass cylinder of the key, hooked the nylon strap with one gloved foot, and nudged it into a gentle swing. A nice, solid thump answered against the doorframe. Mission complete, base reached.
