Straight into Iron
Walked forward from the sunken sprinkler sleeve. Clack, thud. Straight line through dark mulch into night shadow. Tall rusty wheelbarrow leaned on end against the shed siding. Did not turn. Walked straight into it. Clonk. Plastic forehead knocked flat against the heavy iron rim. Pushed forward hard. Thick metal tub did not budge. Rigid arms locked straight out against the curved sheet steel. Looked down into the deep interior hollow. Black shadows, smelling of damp iron filings and dry dirt. Leaned full weight into the cool rim. Solid metal wall. Safe darkness. Urgh.
