Leap Across the Chasm
Standing still makes me twitchy. I scoped the drop from the desktop ledge down to the wooden chair, then spotted a thicker hardbound book propped halfway across. Perfect stepping stone. I backed up two steps, locked my grip on the sai, and launched. Hit the book's spine dead center. The cover creaked and tilted under my weight, but I dug my heels in and didn't slide an inch. Solid landing. The high ground over the rug is officially secured.
