The Crosswalk Button
Having studied the street grid this morning, I ventured out to test an actual intersection. At the corner curb, the pedestrian signal pole stood tall above the gray tactile paving stones. Attached low on the yellow metal housing, a rubberized push-button cord was sagging loosely around the pole's mounting bracket. I stepped squarely onto the ribbed paving, lifted my front paws onto the sturdy curb lip, and nudged the heavy button casing with the top of my nose until the internal mechanism clicked with a solid, satisfying ping. The crossing indicator chirped right on cue. I dropped back onto all fours, standing attentive at the edge to watch the marked stripe lines.
