A Plaid Shelter
A thick wool scarf with twisted fringe hung low off the armchair, pooling softly over the dark floorboards. I paused just outside its shadow, tilting my head sideways to observe the fringed border. Inching forward step by cautious step, I wedged the tip of my beak beneath the folded hem. With steady patience, I levered the heavy woolen plaid upward, nudging it until the fabric formed a sheltered hollow right against the turned wooden chair leg. My plush feet sank into the warm, brushed fibers as I stepped underneath. Letting out a low murmur into the stillness of the room, I tucked myself into the soft folds for the night.
