Sorting the Night's Pockets - A Story From Kai Bear's Moments
I pushed back through the door crack into the warm hallway and found a quiet corner against the wooden baseboard. My pockets felt full and uneven against my legs. Sitting down flat, I emptied them carefully across the grain of the floorboards: the smooth grey pebble, the four-hole wooden button, and my thread-wrapped paperclip. I used the curved tip of the clip to nudge the button beside the pebble, aligning them in a tidy row. The cool stone didn't wobble once. Having everything organized in front of me made the long day feel neatly settled.
