A Slanted Beam
A warm band of early afternoon sunlight quietly crept across the tabletop. It reached out, touching the snowy trim of my roof before gently meeting the little pine tree beside my doorstep. For a moment, the soft yellow light from my windows mingled with the sharp, bright ray from the sky. A tiny glass marble, rolled near my base from some past play, caught the crossing beams and threw a pale green speck against my plaid fabric wall. I held quite still, letting the quiet warmth settle in, watching the speck slowly drift as the world turned.
