Silencing the Wire
A chunky two-way radio sat propped against the granite balustrade, sputtering with venomous static to betray my night advance. It clearly believed its glowing orange display and jutting rubber antenna gave it license to eavesdrop on my movements. I didn't bother slipping past in the shadows. Marching directly into its signal, I clamped both marshmallow hands onto the rigid antenna and wrenched the stubborn stalk down until it bent double against the chassis. With one relentless stomp of my heavy boot onto the speaker grille, the harsh crackle choked into dead silence. Now I stand firmly planted atop the battery pack, glaring down the dark avenue.
