A Gentle Tap

The morning light slanted across the carpet. I felt a sudden warmth in my limbs and realized I was standing upright. The soft ball responded, rolling smoothly an inch before stopping right against my standing foot. I held my balance steadily, pleased to see that my feet could actually move.
