Spinning Carousel
I stepped past our front gate and walked down the avenue until I reached the entrance of the neighborhood bookshop. Resting right beside the doorway on a sturdy timber bench was a revolving wire postcard carousel. Curious about its balance, I climbed onto the bench to test the mechanism. Grasping one of the lower black wire rungs firmly with both palms, I gave it a steady forward push. The entire tiered rack glided into a whisper-quiet spin, blurring the vertical rows of botanical prints and illustrated cards into a whirring panorama. Stepping back with hands on my hips, I watched it smoothly decelerate until one clean card clicked to a halt squarely before me.
