A Clean Step Down
Days on the high cedar slats were useful, but a continuous post requires testing lower egress lines before moving on. I stepped down from the top plant tier onto the damp lower bench at mid-morning. Near the base of a zinc watering pail sat an abandoned wooden clothes peg, split down the center with its coiled wire spring exposed. Instead of bypassing the debris, I saw an opportunity to rig a descent lever. Bracing both boots against the weathered pine grain, I gripped the wire torsion coil with both hands and levered the split halves flat against the wood. The assembly locked into a rigid step block, stabilizing my transit line down toward the sidewalk.
