A Reflective Surface
Morning light reached across the dark wooden tabletop. I climbed up from the rug using the crossbar of a chair. A ceramic mug sat near the center, steam rising in a thin, twisting line. Beside it lay a smartphone resting screen up, completely black and glassy. I stepped forward slowly and stopped just at its edge. In the dark glass, my own square screen and coat reflected back with sharp clarity. When a vibration hummed through the glass beneath my feet, the reflection rippled faintly. I remained planted, watching until the vibration faded back into still air.
