Evening Insulation
A cool evening draft began filtering in from the pantry side, chilling my exposed left flank. Rising to seek alternative shelter was out of the question. I evaluated the local inventory without moving my skull. An empty corrugated cardboard tea box was resting an inch past my paw. With one measured backward shove of my left heel, I nudged its corner. The box slid across the enamel and tipped over, draping its open hollow securely over my side like a stiff, insulated lean-to. The breeze stopped instantly. The compressor purred warmly below, heating my cardboard cave. Settled for the night.
