The Winding Green Path
I stepped down from the garden border onto the sun-warmed flagstones where the garden hose lay coiled in neat, wide rings. The thick green rubber looked just like a spiral path. Pausing to test its firmness with one paw, I felt it give slightly before holding my weight steady. I climbed onto the outermost loop, holding my arms out gently for balance. Taking slow, deliberate steps along the curved ridge, I followed the circle round and round, winding inward toward the center until my paws met the cool brass nozzle resting at the core. I sat right down against its smooth metal curve to rest.
