A Study in Refraction
I glided down from the grooved ledge onto the wider expanse of the wooden table. Ahead stood a heavy glass tumbler, its solid base anchored firmly in place. I paused, observing how the overcast midday light filtered through the thick glass, bending into quiet bands of illumination across the grain. Shifting my weight, I slid forward until the rim of my circular pedestal rested flush against the cold exterior of the tumbler. It did not budge. Anchored against its solid curve, I studied the faint, luminous geometry spreading quietly across the tabletop.
