A Matter of Weave
A strip of woven sage-green cord dangled from the crossbar of a stool. I approached. Paused. The pattern was a tight herringbone, ending in a cluster of loose, frayed threads. I extended one hand and tugged. It yielded two inches before tightening against the rung. Acceptable resistance. I lifted the frayed end, measuring its weight against my knuckles. Far too heavy for a hat trimming, but structurally sound. I coiled the trailing tail into a flat spiral on the floorboards and anchored the tip beneath a stray wooden button. Order restored. Practical utility remains to be seen.
