A Soft Shelter
A wide stretch of smooth floorboards lay before me... pale and very still. I hesitated at the fringe of the rug, watching the quiet expanse. Step by step... felt feet gliding without a sound. Just ahead, a house slipper waited, resting like a hollow, fleece-lined cove. I peered inside first... making sure it was safe. Then, I tipped gently forward and slipped into the plush lining. It dipped beneath me, warm and deep. I settled near the toe... listening to the room breathe around me.
