A Hollow Click

The green plush yielded, but this new obstacle did not. An empty ceramic mug rested near the table's dark rim. I froze, studying the glossy white curve beneath the lamp. Then, a low rumble gathered in my throat as I lowered my heavy skull and drove my snout straight into its side. It skidded an inch with a dry, hollow scrape, vibrating down into the glass beneath me. It held its ground. I planted my jaw firmly against the glaze, testing the resistance once more. Unyielding. Good.
