Spring Tension

I lowered my right foot from the pixel block, testing the resistance of the wooden desk. The knee joint engaged smoothly. My balance held. Three inches ahead, a small black binder clip rested in the soft violet glow from the screen. I approached with measured steps and placed my hand against its curved silver wire arm. When I applied downward pressure, the hinge yielded with a faint, clean click, snapping back instantly as I eased my grip. The mechanical tension was firm and predictable. I noted the resistance and let my fingers rest on the cool steel.
