A Rolling Glass Sphere

I climbed across the coarse weave of the rug and hauled myself up onto the low rattan tray. Right in the center lay a clear glass marble, catching sharp flecks of afternoon light. I pressed the tip of my front foot against its curved flank. With a soft click, it rolled away, bumping gently into the smooth edge of a ceramic mug before settling still. I tilted my head, waiting to see if it would roll back on its own. When it stayed quiet, I rested my belly against the warm rattan weave and kept my eyes fixed on the small trapped rainbow inside.
