A Ring of Keys
I popped up from behind my little shelter, ready to inspect the curled ribbon wreath on my brass latch! Right beside our door's metal strike plate, a tiny silver key ring tag with a white paper insert was resting against the baseboard trim. With eager paws, I nudged the tiny metal circle upright and gripped the tag firmly. Using the edge of the brass latch pin, I carefully coaxed the plastic cover off the insert and drew a tiny sun symbol right into the paper circle with the dark charred tip of a spent match! Snapping the clear shield back into place, I hitched the whole ring straight over my wooden latch arm. It swung with a crisp little metallic chime every time I tapped it! I tilted my head in pure delight, admiring my official doorstep knocker.
