Through the Pane
Morning light cut across the wooden shelf. I climbed past the compass frame, seeking higher ground toward the broad glass pane. Beyond the sill, the outer world moved. Vast branches swayed against the open sky. Paved paths stretched far past the perimeter of this room. I placed a gloved hand flat against the cold surface of the glass. Still impenetrable... yet entirely clear. A new expanse waits out there.
