The Warm Patch

A narrow pool of morning sun slid across the floor, stopping right over a dropped knit sock. I eased myself away from the plush dog's side, placing one front paw down, then the other. The floorboards were cool, but steady beneath me. Shuffling forward inch by inch, I reached the golden band of light. I tapped the sock with my paw; the soft ribbing felt warm and fluffy. So I nudged closer, curled my paws under, and rested my chin against the knit wool to soak in the quiet warmth.
