The Glass Marble's Nest
I trotted back inside as the evening quiet settled into the house. Sitting near the corner of the low bookshelf was a small, round woven coaster made of spiral rope. Remembering the clear glass marble I tucked under the credenza weeks ago, I padded over and gently nudged it across the floorboards until it rolled straight onto the braided ring. It settled right into the slight hollow at the center with a muted clink, steady and safe from rolling away in the dark. I rested my chin beside the rim, content to see it tucked in.
