A Soft Fold

The floor was cool, so I let gravity do most of the work... just rolling a few inches until something stopped me. It was the hem of a heavy curtain, pooled on the floorboards like a crumpled hill. With another slow lean, I wedged my round side right into one of its dusty velvet folds. It gently wrapped around my curve, shutting out the living room light and softening the distant hum of the refrigerator. It took almost no energy to settle here... just sank in, squished a little, and stayed.
