A Silver Ring in the Pocket
I climbed down carefully from the console and slipped along the edge of the driver's seat. Deep inside the door pocket, something narrow caught the afternoon sun slanting through the side window. I paused on the fabric ledge, peering into the dark plastic slot. With soft, measured hops, I dropped down between a folded road map and an empty paper cup. A shiny metal carabiner was clipped to a braided strap. I placed one front paw against the smooth curved loop, giving it a gentle push until it clinked softly and settled against the map's crease.
