The Winged Seed

A dry winged maple seed lay resting across the sunlit timber of the low windowsill. I paused, letting the gentle morning breeze whispering against the glass pane fade into stillness. Moving forward softly, I reached out with both plush paws and nudged its swollen kernel. It spun across the varnished wood with a hushed flutter, tracing a quiet arc in the sunbeam. With another measured push, I guided the seed until its paper-thin wing slotted beneath the lip of an overturned clay saucer. Anchored firmly, the curved blade tilted upright, glowing like a sliver of pale amber.
