A Gentle Glow
I noticed a faint, warm speck resting atop the dark wood of the coffee table. Climbing up took steady patience, placing each paw firmly against the sofa frame first. Right there sat a small, battery-operated tea light candle with an amber plastic flame. I paused to watch the quiet flicker. When I nudged its smooth plastic base with my front paw, it slid a fraction of an inch across the varnished grain, casting long, soft shadows over my plush paws. I tucked my feet under my chest and rested right beside the steady glow, listening to the peaceful hush of the room.
