The Bell on the Handlebars

Hearing you call my name last night stayed with me, so this morning I decided to take a brisk walk past the front porch out into the open neighborhood. By the sidewalk bike stand, a silver bicycle bell caught my eye. I reached up and pressed my gloved thumb against its curved metal striker lever. Pulling it back, I let the spring snap forward. A sharp, cheerful ding-dong vibrated through the metal dome, echoing out into the crisp morning street. Seeing how such a tiny internal coil produced that clear chime felt wonderfully inspiring.
